For years, Colleen has said we need to go to Juanito’s. This Friday, we finally made it! I want to say it was well worth the wait, but I’m sad we didn’t go sooner. It was sooo good!

There are more options. This is just part of the menu.
Colleen had them make her Seafood Enchiladas with a cream sauce. The waitress recommended this to her, even though it was not on the menu. After giving Colleen enough time to taste the food, the waitress returned to the table to see how she liked it. She really enjoyed it! Smiling, the waitress told her that it was one of her favorites. Now, this is service! Colleen also noted that she liked the sour cream. It was creamy and not sour.
I had the Enchiladas Suizas. Just looking at the picture makes me hungry again. I don’t know where to begin. Everything was cooked perfectly, and each bite was so tasty!
The chairs are painted. It adds to the atmosphere.
Even the back of the chairs are painted. You can see the care that went into making this restaurant.

Food for thought

I was playing a game online and was reading the chat. One of the players wrote, “back in the 1900s.” At first, I read it as the 1800s, but then, I realized they meant the 1900s. I thought about it, and, if you’re a teenager, you weren’t alive in the 1900s. I have now become someone from a different era. How does the time go by so fast? When you’re young, it seemed to last forever. I remember being in class, thinking that it would never end, and being the age of 5 and 3/4 because birthdays took sooo long! Now, I have to subtract my birth year from the current year because I don’t want to know how old I am.

This Friday, we again had the pleasure of Val joining us. We went Amy’s. I would list their menu but they have over 200 omelets alone, and many more selections! At Amy’s with your omelet selection, you can get your choice of french toast or pancakes, instead of toast and potatoes. Not often found elsewhere!

The interior is very charming with many vintage finds.
Colleen and I both got the French Onion Soup. So much melted cheese!
Colleen had New England Omelet. It is filled with seafood and cheese. She got the Hollandaise on the side and French toast. I like that it is folded with stuff inside, instead of mixed in. To me that is what makes an omelet.
Val enjoyed Strawberry and banana crepes with nutella, and eggs on the side. Yum! How could you go wrong.
I had the egg salad with a baked potato and cole slaw. It was decent, but nothing I would crave. I really need to order an omelet.
So Fun!

Food for Thought

Our waitress was perfectly fine, but there are certain things that good waitresses or waiters do that others do not. We eat out every week and we know the difference. You should wait a few minutes before asking if everything is fine and if you need anything. Colleen wanted syrup with her French toast and we had finished eating by the time she got it. Another thing that a good waitress or waiter does is when you bring the food it’s nice if you bring another drink. Usually by the time the food has arrived everyone’s drink is empty, and bring it for the whole table, unless its costs extra, then you ask. Some places have extra large cups, there it is not necessary.

This Friday, we had the pleasure of Val, joining us. Another restaurant week choice, this time we had breakfast. We went to Djeet in Shrewsbury. They specialize in farm-fresh and local ingredients, which makes food so much better.

Colleen and I both had the Jenny Benny with orange juice and hash browns. The sandwich was really good and fresh fruit was especially good!
Val had the Brioche French Toast with orange juice and hash browns

The hash browns were yummy! Nice and crisp on the outside and tender on the inside with lots of peppers and onions.

Food for thought

Today was the great water debate, Colleen got one of those cups that tells you to keep drinking water. The amount seems excessive to me and if I were to do it, I would be in the bathroom all the time. Can I add juice to the water for flavor? I like water sometimes, just not ALL the time. Also, I thought food has some water in it.

Colleen insists it has to be only water. She says anything else doesn’t count!!!!!!!!! Food definitely Does NOT count!!! She says you can’t have a hot fudge sundae and it count.

I’m sad but hot fudge sundae is practical liquid!

Hurray it’s Restaurant Week! We went to the Melting Pot. It was gone from Red Bank for a couple of years, but now it’s back! You have an electric warmer in the middle of the table, to heat your fondue. It’s a unique and fun experience.

Fondue Fun

We choose the fondue in a flash. Colleen ordered the Spinach Artichoke and I ordered the boring but yummy Wisconsin Cheddar. There were various dippers for the fondue from apples to cauliflower

We both ordered the Broccoli Cheddar Soup
You, also, get a salad with the meal! I liked that it had hard boiled eggs and croutons. I want to add that the hard boiled eggs were cooked perfectly, sometimes you can get the green line around the yolk, they aren’t supposed to have that. The honey mustard dressing was just the right amount, enough that it was there in every bite, but not drenched.
Lastly, as if there wasn’t enough food there was satay. Here is shrimp, salmon and chicken. The salmon was really good the best of the trio! Next time I think I would order three salmon.

Topic of discussion or food for thought

This is discussion we seem to have most everyday. How to loose weight, seems odd after this feast. I can assure I do not eat like this everyday. Fridays are special. I don’t understand though how if you eat a cake that weighs one pound why do you gain five. Colleen has cut out sweets since the beginning of the year and she says that she is not missing it. I have my cheat day once a week. We need to add more exercise though. I swear that if you walk by a bakery you gain weight, it’s so easy to gain, so hard to take off.

On Friday we went to the Chowda House in Red Bank, New Jersey, one of our favorite seafood restaurants. We like the ambiance of the restaurant, it feels like being at the shore. The seafood always tastes fresh there!

We both had a cup of Lobster Bisque. Yum! I like that is not heavy like some bisque but still tasty.
Colleen had the Baked Cod with the rice pilaf. I asked her to describe it and all she says is yummy. She added that the cod doesn’t have a fishy taste.
I had the Buttermilk Fried Shrimp with Coleslaw. I like it because it tastes homemade.
This is the Special of the day, avocado stuffed with shrimp salad.

Topic of Discussion

Colleen has recently bought a new van, it has many new features. It has automatic braking, blind spot detection, rear view camera, lane assist, the cruise control is different too, now you can say how far you want to be from the car in front of you and it will adjust etc. Soon it will be only a matter of time before cars drive themselves. How will this change the future? What will the police do? Will bars become popular again? Will seniors be more mobile? Will seating be different?
